Orientation

Here is the whole group of us who are in my program. There are 11 girls- 4 from the US, 4 from England, and 3 from Ireland. We are now spread around all different areas of the country. Two weeks together at the ranch led to many silly moments, lots of laughter, and some good friendships that felt like they were formed much more than two weeks prior! It was a lot like camp.
The program was started by Fernando, a native of Buenos Aires. We are all living in different towns, staying with host families, and teaching English at a local school ( I think some are public and some are language institutes. I thought mine was public but it turns out it is an institute!)

Here is a picture of the house we stayed in. There was a ton of farmland surrounding this modest building.
During out "Spanish immersion" week, where we could only speak Spanish, we went to town to play a football (soccer) game with some other locals. Here it is primarily a male sport- only 1%of the female population play it!
During our 2 weeks at the ranch, we had to go to the small town nearby to interview various people. The town had less than 500 people in it and we were assigned to interview the municipal delegator. It was very interesting to see the contrast between the governmental offices there and at home! He represents his town and has to deal with issues such as flooding. A majority of the land in this area was under a meter of water for two years... meaning the only way in or out of this town was via a helicopter! I got claustrophobic just thinking about it.
